In a heartfelt demonstration of Concern for Community, a core SteadFin value, a dedicated team of members completed a project to support children undergoing cancer treatment at the Mulago National Referral Hospital Cancer Institute – Children’s Ward.
The project, titled “Nutrition Support to Feeding Cancer Patients,” was driven by a deep desire to support underprivileged members of our society. The children’s ward at the cancer institute cares for between 45 to 50 young patients weekly, with many of their parents and caregivers facing immense challenges in meeting the children’s nutritional and sanitary needs – needs that are crucial in boosting immunity and aiding recovery.
“We were inspired by the dire conditions we learned about,” one team member shared. “These children are fighting for their lives. It was on our hearts to help – to be a source of hope.”
The execution of the project was a true testament to teamwork and purpose. Members began by pooling financial resources and engaging in consultations with healthcare workers to identify the most appropriate items. After mobilizing funds, the team purchased and delivered both food and hygiene supplies to the ward.

While long-term sustainability of the project remains a challenge, the in-charge of the children’s ward, Dr. Moses, expressed confidence in continued donor support. “The dedication of everyone involved made the difference. Even where challenges existed, the spirit of compassion kept us going.”
The impact of this initiative was immediate and deeply moving, as children received nutritional support that will contribute to healthier immune systems and better responses to treatment.
“You didn’t just bring food, you brought us encouragement,” shared one grateful caregiver.
“Please come again and again. It gives us strength to know people care,” said another.
These sentiments underline the critical importance of community-led interventions, particularly in healthcare settings.
The project left a lasting impression on all team members, and broadened their understanding of social responsibility, reaffirming SteadFin’s powerful role in positively influencing communities.
“One thing we learned is that none of us can do much alone – but together, we can do something meaningful,” a team member reflected.
“You only realize the depth of someone’s struggle when you step into their world. That changes you.”
